[ARCHIVED] C&D Landfill Expansion

C and D Pit

The City of Rawlins City Council and Staff are excited to announce we have obtained a Solid Waste Chapter 2 Lifetime Operating Permit for the current Construction and Demolition(C&D) pit at the Municipal Landfill from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. This is estimated to provide an additional 26 years of life in our C&D pit, so that construction and demolition waste can still be disposed of locally. If this permit had not been obtained, the City of Rawlins would have been forced to begin Phase III closure of the landfill. This work was completed with the help and team efforts of numerous staff members, City Council, Inberg-Miller Engineers, Engineering Associates, and Department of Environmental Quality.

City Council will also be reviewing the operation of the landfill and considering options for its ongoing stability and funding at their work session on February 2nd, 2021 at 6pm at City Council Chambers at 521 W. Cedar. Due to the extended life of our C&D permit and because we have paid off the smaller, private loan for the landfill closure, the Council will be assessing the landfill financial requirements and how to best meet them. The public is invited to attend in person or to submit comments by 8:00am on Tuesday, February 2nd, which will be read into the record during the work session during the public comment portion.
