Congratulations to the volunteers of the Wyoming Frontier Prison—including event volunteers, board members, and Friends of the Old Pen—on receiving the December 2025 Community Builder Award! These dedicated volunteers, including 416 serving on the Board or as Friends of the Old Pen since1991, and 431 volunteers who have volunteered for the Halloween tours since 2003, are the reason Rawlins’ most iconic historic site remains a beloved and impactful part of our community—not just another vacant historic site.
From maintaining 49 acres and multiple historic buildings to fixing what breaks, planting flowers, decorating for holidays, and running the best Halloween event in the state, they step in without hesitation and with deep respect for this 137-year-old landmark. Their work preserves history while fueling tourism, cultural events, and economic activity that benefit Rawlins and the entire state.
We thank every volunteer for showing the power of dedication and love for our community. Want to help make a difference? Call 307-324-4422 to learn how you can get involved and be part of something that truly builds our community.
