On Saturday, November 11th, 2023 at approx. 1:00 pm, staff at the landfill became aware of a fire in the Construction and Demolition area. The fire was in the unburied portion of the construction and demolition materials, which generally includes items such as brick, cabinets, concrete, metal, wood, and siding. This was a fire of significant size. Rawlins Fire Department(RFD), Carbon County Fire, and Town of Sinclair Fire all responded. The City of Rawlins and the RFD thank our partners for their assistance.
By 5:15 the fire had been totally isolated and contained. The fire continues to burn and be monitored due to the amount of material in the area. The cause of the fire is not known. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters, and there was no damage to landfill buildings or equipment.
Please stay posted for further information on when the Construction and Demolition area will reopen.
