[ARCHIVED] Recycling Drop-Offs at Daley Street

Inked - trash at drop off bins

Due to excessive misuse and beautification concerns, the City of Rawlins is removing our recycling bins from near the intersections of Railroad and Washington Streets, and 16th and Spruce Streets. We will also be expanding the drop-off yard near Daley and Knootz, which will remain available 24 hours a day with on-site surveillance.

In the three months of 2022 alone, the drop-off bins had 12 tons of trash placed in the recycling bins. This more than doubles the workload for our small recycling crew with sorting, bagging, and hauling the trash to the landfill. It also causes a loss of thousands of dollars of revenue to the landfill. Items that have been found in the recycling bins include diapers, mattresses, dead animals, construction materials, and general household trash.

The recycling drop-off bins located throughout the community have also contributed to some blow-off of trash and recycling materials during very windy events or when the bins are left open.

The improved drop-off yard will include separate bins for each product, making both drop-off and sorting more efficient. Any blow-off will be contained within the fenced area and cleaned regularly by City staff.

We would like to thank Wyoming Waste and Dirty Boyz for their ongoing support and donations to our recycling program. The Recycling Center is open and offers assistance with unloading on Tuesday-Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, and Saturday from 8 am to noon.  For more information on recycling, please call 307-328-4569 or visit www.rawlinswy.org/recycle
